Interview with Igor Bleischwitz

June 2020

1. Which role does figuration play in your work?

Figuration is the the core of my work. I always start to work figuratively. A sketch, a first layer of painting, a ceramic piece is all about how to catch a figure, how to show the most interesting, important part of it.

2, What are you currently working on?

Currently I am working on a few things, the first is a marble sculpture , the other is a series of ceramics, inspired by the ancient world of Slavs, Sumerian and Etruscan, especially their symbols, ornaments and architecture.

3. Do you listen to music while working?

For a good reason, techno music is a kind of sound that gives me the possibility to reach a state of mind that's very close to a kind of trance. That makes it possible to me to better focus on what I am working on.

4. Which artists (or other people) are you inspired by?

There are a few artists who are an inspiration to me, like Michelangelo, Rodin, Botticelli, Guston and the whole palette of ancient world art, all around the world

5. What is the best part of being an artist?

To be an artist is a privilege and really hard work. As an artist you need a lot of knowledge in different areas, your senses should work for you, it's necessary to be able to feel the atmosphere around you.
As an artist you are creating a piece of art, that may change something hopefully in a good way and you are taking the responsibility of that. In my opinion it's not always just for fun and artists should take it seriously. But it is just my point of view.
